How To Grow A Child To The Fullest

“Everybody is a genius.

But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree,

it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

This quote by Einstein reveals a valuable insight into parenting. For parents who love their children so much that they hate to see their children fail (the pain comes less from a child’s failure than from the pain that your child has to go through because of the failure) but who has to watch their children being downsized by a few elite children in school, don’t give up your hope yet.

Academic talent is only one of many types of intelligence in this world. What we can do as parents is to let our children find the talents they feel comfortable with. But what are those “many” talents? To help the beleaguered parents, a professor in Psychology at Harvard identifies 9 areas of intelligence:

Are you feeling worried that your child runs around the classroom instead of sitting politely at the desk studying? Well, don’t be. A bodily-kinaesthetic child needs to move around to learn. Are you feeling worried that your child cannot understand geometry no matter how many sheets of papers you waste on explaining? Again, don’t be. You’ve just narrowed down the list of potentials to explore from nine to eight.

Children – also adults – learn best when they feel they are in control and witness in their own eyes their progress and achievements. Don’t forget, everybody is a genius – they are endowed with their own natural giftedness. So let our children build upon their own strengths. Let them excel at what they’re good at so they can grow their confidence to overcome challenges that await in their future.
