Our Bedtime Routine

11/02/2016

WHY I LOVE BEDTIME:

As a working mum, I often find it a challenge when it comes to spending quality time with my children. That is why bedtime provides me the opportunity to spend quality time with them. Whether its chatting about their friends, what they learnt in school or even just snuggling together in bed, it’s a time for me to build the bond between mother and child.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A ROUTINE:

Repetition and structure helps children feel safe and secure. It also helps me to plan my own routine and have some me-time when they are asleep!

OUR BEDTIME ROUTINE:

MAINTAINING GOOD ORAL HYGIENE – 8PM

The children have been seeing a paediatric dentist since they were 2 years old and have learnt the importance of  good oral health and the how-tos in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. That’s why they know bedtime = teeth first!

GETTING READY FOR BED

Encouraging the kids to dress independently is a great way to teach them to do things themselves and it helps to free up more of my time in the longer term.

BEDTIME STORY

Kids get to pick the Book of the Night and we will take turns to read. Though they might not be able to read correctly, the reading process allows them to explore and express their imaginations freely.

At times, we would give up the bedtime stories and just chat! Sharing everything that happened during the day and working out the children's’ frustrations, fears and joys.  This helps me to understand how they spent their days and allows my children to be more expressive with their thoughts.

GOODNIGHT - 8.30PM

Kissing my children goodnight, I will tuck them to bed and turn on the night light. At the same time, praying with all my heart they will be lead another day happier, healthier and brighter
