Korea: Easy Accommodation and Transportation for Families with Children

18/09/2018

With so many fantastic accommodation options, we were spoilt for choice! Every traveller has a different checklist while sourcing for their accommodation and we are just the same. Priorities on our list were how kids friendly and accessible it is, and after much consideration, we set our foot down on Lotte Hotel. Trust me, it took us a while to decide as there were so many alternatives that checked everything off our list as well; accessible lodging is so easy to find considering how modern and efficient Seoul’s public transportation is.

Just look at how dense this subway map is - you can literally get anywhere at the tap of a card. On that note, you should know, similar to the EZ-Link and NETS FlashPay cards that we have in Singapore, they, too, have transportation cards that can be used for the subway, buses, and even retail stores like 7-Eleven and Ministop.

You can get T-money and Cashbee cards for approximately 2,500 KRW (~SGD5) and immediately be spared the hassle of purchasing single journey subway tickets for each ride. You even get to enjoy discounts during transfers within a time limit (similar to what we have too - great nations think alike huh?). Plus, it’s nice to experience how the locals commute and just for the week, our family can pretend to be koreans too - Annyeong!

Anyway, I digress. Back to why Lotte Hotel was the perfect fit for us.

One of the more obvious reason is the fact that it is walking distance to Lotte World but that is just one of the perks. It is also conveniently connected to Jamsil train station, malls, the supermarket and eateries - with our 2 demanding kids, we never know what we’ll need and having everything so close by is perfect for us; parents who just want to enjoy a peaceful, tantrum-free holiday.

Besides Lotte World, it is exciting to know that there are many family attractions surrounding its vicinity such as the Seoul SkyCOEX Aquarium and Children’s Grand Park

While we opted for a more comfortable option, we are not averse to the idea of trying out Airbnb apartments, it’d reinforce the entire local experience, on top of public transport means!

For more options on where to put up during your own visit, you can consider these other options that we came across, some even shortlisted.
