Review: British Council

Most parents know our child’s early years are important for building a strong foundation in language learning. On top of conversing and reading to your child, what else can you do to give your child a head-start? If you are looking for a quality language enrichment programme, the British Council has plenty to offer.

With the school holidays around the corner, why not enrol your child for an enriching English holiday programme at the British Council? Music lovers will enjoy the Timmy-themed Music and Magic course (for N1-N2), while dinosaur fans will have a blast at The Land of Dinosaurs course (K1-K2). There are also courses to prepare your child for Primary 1 (K2), and newly launched primary-level courses to hone their composition-writing, comprehension and speaking skills (Primary 1-6). With so many courses to choose from, there is bound to be something suitable for your child. For more information on the upcoming holiday programmes, please visit here

The British Council also offers a wide range of English enrichment courses during term time for pre-school children to secondary school students and beyond. Registration for 2017 courses is open, so hop over to British Council for more details.

Why choose the British Council? There are so many language enrichment options out there, so what makes the British Council special? Having taught English courses in Singapore since 1957, the British Council is one of the most established language learning centres here. You can also count on a quality learning experience for your child, as all British Council teachers have native speaking proficiency and are internationally qualified.

Duncan Rose, Head of Schools, shares how the programmes are developmentally appropriate and targeted at the children’s needs. “Our pre-school courses focus on developing students’ literacy skills and building their speaking confidence, to prepare them to enter Primary 1 as confident and creative users of English. We understand that genuine learning only happens when our students are able to grasp the meaning of the passages they are reading, which is why we put a lot of emphasis on comprehension tasks to develop this integral part of the reading process. In our Primary English courses, we challenge students to think deeply and critically about themes and their own performance as we believe that this leads to better grades. In addition to targeting areas that students need most support in, our courses also help students build greater world knowledge which would give them an edge in school oral, comprehension and composition activities.”
